John is a well-established Master of Ceremonies and a highly entertaining after-dinner or conference speaker. John was the MC for the Wellington Cup Fashion in the Field for almost a decade as well as for a number other high profile or society events. John’s extensive media talents include hosting his own Wellington regional Food and Wine television show for two years (Man About Town), his own radio show for 15 years, working as a film critic, regularly visiting the Cannes Film Festival, amongst others. John spent seven years as a wine writer for various magazines and newspapers as well as a freelance lifestyle writer. John has written two screenplays (New Zealand Love Story and Recipe for Death) and three books, one on movies (WATCH THIS MOVIE); How to gate crash parties at The Cannes Film Festival (CANNES CONFIDENTIAL); and a ski season cooking in Chamonix in The French Alps (ITS ALL PART OF THE ALPINE EXPERIENCE). A passionate traveller, he has visited close to 80 countries, is a self-confessed history geek and an avid foodie.

John owned or co-owned a dozen restaurants during his tenure in hospitality before becoming a world class chef. John’s latest two books Chef for Sail and Chef Two Sail detail how John pursues his dream of becoming a script writer and author and switches identity accidentally by becoming a professional chef, engaged in a task way beyond his capabilities.
